"Remember me, Remember us," is a Missing Voices concert with soprano, Lily Arbisser and pianist, Dimitri Malignan from Paris.
Missing Voices sheds light on the irreparable loss of Jewish classical music composers during the Holocaust. Dimitri is pleased to return to the Quad Cities with collaborator and Davenport native Lily Arbisser, for this newly curated program. They are joined by violist Deanna Petre from Minnesota.
The program will celebrate the collection of stringed instruments restored and curated by Violins of Hope. Some of these instruments were played in unspeakable conditions. Some of them traveled with their owners out of ghettos and concentration camps to safety in British Mandatory Palestine—now Israel—and elsewhere. All are now lovingly stewarded by Violins of Hope.
The concert features music which would have been played in the ghettos and concentration camps, including Mozart, Brahms, Puccini and Schumann, music that was suppressed, including Mendelssohn, Mandyczewski and Chopin, and music by composers who were persecuted in World War II and the Holocaust, including Dick Kattenburg, Vítězslava Kaprálová, Hans Gál and Simon Laks.
The event is free as part of Thursdays at the Figge, sponsored by Chris and Mary Rayburn.
